The Sacrament of marriage is a visible sign of God's Love for the Church. When a man and a woman are married in the Church, they receive the grace needed for a lifelong bond of unity.
Marriage is a unique Sacrament that binds one man and one woman in a covenant under God and His Church. It is a Sacrament of vocation, a response to a specific calling that God has placed in the hearts of a couple. It is a permanent, faithful, and fruitful bond that lasts for life. Marriage is not just about two people but is the foundation of the family, the "domestic church," the most basic and foundational structure for the Church and all of society.
At least one person needs to be Catholic and a parish member for at least
12 months for the couple to wed at St. Mary of the Knobs. Please note that the Archdiocese of Indianapolis also requires a preparation process of a minimum of six months before the wedding date. No date can be confirmed until the Priest has met with the couple to determine that nothing stands in the way of a valid and licit celebration of the proposed wedding (ecclesiastical canon 1066) and to begin the preparation process. Please call the Parish Office at 812-923-3011 to schedule an appointment with Fr. Bill Marks, Pastor of St. Mary of the Knobs.
