The Ordinary Minister for Holy Communion is a Bishop, Priest or Deacon by virtue of their Ordination.

An Extraordinary Minister is a religious or layperson, fully initiated into the Catholic Church (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) who has been commissioned to assist in distributing Holy Communion at Mass, as well as to those who are homebound and in nursing homes.

Ministers are trained and scheduled.
